Information and Advice is one of our core services, which
enables older people, their family and
their carers to find and make use of the services or support
available to them, to exercise their rights and entitlements,
and in so doing, to maintain their independence and quality
of life for as long as possible.
Age Concern has over 40 helpful and impartial factsheets
available including such issues such as money, legal topics,
health, community care, housing, transport, heating, and leisure
and education. Age Concern Durham County also provides a benefit
check service and can assist in the completion of benefit
forms.
This free service can be accessed by:
- telephoning or calling in to the County Office in Durham
City or one of our Locality
Offices during opening hours;
- at a regular or one-off outreach sessions
- through a home visit made by the Information Officer or
a Locality Worker.

- to make the service available in sparsly populated areas
of Teesdale and Weardale we run a mobile service. The service
runs sessions offering both generic and specialist advice
and information sessions, which include topics such as Will
Writing, Home Safety, Accident Prevention and Health Topics.
