Fit as a Fiddle
Fit as a Fiddle Local Launch There was great local support the Fit as a Fiddle launch event in Durham County which was held at Woodhouse Close Church Community Centre in Bishop Auckland. Fifty people attended and tried out a variety of activities including pilates, tai chi and seated exercise. Health volunteers provided further activities in the form of hand massage, make up demonstrations and Wii sessions. Four “Men in the Kitchen” produced a delicious three course meal under the expert guidance of a local chef. Everyone greatly enjoyed themselves and there was a lot of interest in continuing the activities tried. As a result of this event a men’s cookery course is running at the centre throughout the summer and a 10 week tai chi course will start in September. We are also planning to put on a pilates course in the near future and the health volunteers are being kept busy organising pamper coffee mornings in a variety of venues around the area. We extend a big thank you to our volunteers whose help was vital to making this event and so many of our activities such a great success. Fit as a Fiddle Regional Launch Older people from across the North East region enjoyed a full day of outdoor activities such as gorge walking, high ropes, climbing and a challenge walk at High Force Activity Centre recently. The event was held to mark the regional launch of the Fit as a Fiddle project. Six participants and two staff represented Durham County. They eagerly took up the challenge and showed their mettle as they tackled the high ropes course, took the leap of faith on the high trapeze or jumped into the river, proving that age is no barrier to taking part in adventurous activity.
Please visit our events page for further details or contact us at the address provided as activity times and venues can change at short notice.
