South Area

Our aim is to ‘Improve the well being  of all older people 50+ across the South Area of Durham County’.

We do this through a variety of ways.    Our programme is achieved by working together with partner agencies, tutors, volunteers and staff.  Without their commitment, hard work and support we could not achieve our many successes.

Ageing Well: Promoting Healthy Lifestyles for the over 50’s in Sedgefield Area and the Durham Dales.

Are you looking to improve your well being through exercise?  Why not join one of the many physical activities that are designed to accommodate all fitness levels.  These can vary from gentle seated exercise to walks.

Fit as a Fiddle: The programme is funded by the Big Lottery and has offered an excellent opportunity to develop activities such as gentle exercise, walks and information talks.  Please use the this link for further information on Fit as a Fiddle.

Representing the Older Person:
Age Concern through its EngAge programme represents the views of older people and/or their carers by attending local forums ensuring their voice is heard.

  • Age Concern user/carer focus groups meetings are friendly and informal.  New members are very welcome.
  • You can be involved via the telephone, returning questionnaires or one to one.
  • Attend conferences and events.
  • The only cost incurred is time and an interest in health, social and community services for people.

Volunteers:  Our volunteers are invaluable and without them we could not deliver such a wide range of initiatives.  Volunteers are formally recruited, offered appropriate training and supported to assist Age Concern in enhancing the lives of local older people.  Time to spare, time to share, contact us at the address below:
