Intergenerational Programme
Our Intergenerational Programme is a countywide initiative with the aim to challenge generational divides by bringing
together older and younger people in a positive exchange of
skills, experiences and friendship. By promoting intergenerational
working across all sectors, we hope to encourage social inclusion
and reduce the isolation, which is sometimes felt by older
people. We work towards these objectives in a number of ways.
- By promoting good practice through workshops and seminars
for practitioners, an annual conference and the distribution
of a regular newsletter.
- By working with other agencies on new initiatives.
By undertaking a number of Community Safety Initiatives,
which bridge generational divides by bringing together older
and younger people to work on a variety of projects across
Durham County. Examples of these include Local History Projects
in which young people have interviewed older volunteers about
their area and what life was like when they were their age.
The programme is going from strength to strength, and if
you would like any more information would like to attend a
workshop or have an idea for a project please contact our
